Steve Smith, a famous cricketer from Australia, is sure that no amount of possible injury concerns will prevent him from starting on time for the forthcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which will be played in India beginning on February 9, 2023. Since scoring back-to-back century for the Sydney Sixers in his past two matches for the team, Steve Smith has been the team’s go-to batter in the ongoing Big Bash League. In the first game he played, he also gave the Sixers a strong start against the Perth Scorchers. “I’m pretty certain we’ll be all right”, the 33-year-old was quoted as saying. Despite the century against the Sydney Thunders, Smith was suffering from back spasms late in the game and ultimately was substituted off the field as the Sixers bundled out their opponents for a paltry 62 runs.

Smith first had the spasms during practise in the afternoon, and it’s unlikely that he will be able to play on January 23 against the Hobart Hurricanes, the Sixers’ final regular-season game. Concerns have been raised ahead of Australia’s trip of India after fellow colleague Nathan Lyon missed the Sixers’ past two games due to knee pain. Smith stated following the victory over the Thunder that he anticipates both Lyon and himself to be OK for the opening Test.

“I just had some spasming this afternoon. I struggle to get upright. I can bend (forwards) all right but getting into an extension is not ideal. It probably helped me in my batting, kept me a bit lower. It’s a bit stiff but hopefully I pull up okay”, the right-handed batter signed off. Smith is regarded as Australia’s finest player against spinners, and as the conditions in India are more conducive to spin, he will be the Baggy Greens’ best option to take on India at home. Since 2003, Australia has not prevailed in India.
