India defeated Pakistan at the Newlands in Cape Town on Sunday to begin their Women’s T20 World Cup campaign. Jemimah Rodrigues smashed an unbeaten half-century. Jemimah crushed an unbeaten 53 off 38 balls as India finished the game with an over remaining after setting a target of 150. Earlier, Pakistan had scored 149/4 in 20 overs thanks to Captain Bismah Maroof’s fifty. People from all walks of life thanked India for pulling off the highest-scoring run chase in Women’s T20 World Cup history on Twitter. The team was captained by Harmanpreet Kaur.

India needed to score 150 to win, but after Jemimah Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 53 off 38 deliveries with eight fours, they finished with six balls remaining. After labouring to 68 for four in the 13th over, Pakistan captain Bismah Maroof (68 not out) and hard-hitter Ayesha Naseem (43 not out) raised their team’s score.
