Sandeep Lamichhane, a cricket player for Nepal, had been placed under a travel ban until the Supreme Court granted an order to release it on February 27. The cricketer was prohibited from travelling abroad and instructed to notify the police before leaving Kathmandu, according to an order issued by the Patan High Court on January 12. However, on January 13, the suspect was freed from detention after securing a Rs 2 million bond.

Lamichhane, who is now free on bond, had asked to be permitted to take part in the ICC World Cup League 2’s ongoing triangular series, which got underway on February 27 in the United Arab Emirates. On January 24, Judge Ishwor Prasad Khatiwada’s single bench rejected the cricketer’s request to have the ban lifted. The Attorney General’s Office then appealed the High Court’s decision to the Supreme Court on January 31.

At the court’s last hearing on Lamichhane’s petitions, a division bench made up of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Kumar Chudal decided in his favour. In a case involving the exploitation of a youngster sexually, Lamichhane is being sued. According to a report in the Kathmandu Post, the child filed a First Information Report against the cricketer on September 6 of last year at the Metropolitan Police Circle in Gaushala, Kathmandu. The cricketer afterwards declared that he will travel back to Nepal on October 6 to answer for his actions. When he arrived at the airport, he was detained by police and members of the Department of Immigration.

Lamichhane’s name was not present when Nepal’s team was announced for the CWC Tri-series in the United Arab Emirates. Prior to the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) announcing the final selection on February 26, he was initially left out of the 15-member provisional squad. However, the most recent court decision means he will now join the team in the United Arab Emirates for the duration of the tournament.
