In a Group 1 encounter on Tuesday in Brisbane, Afghanistan was defeated by Sri Lanka by a score of 6-wickets. The Mohammed Nabi-led team was eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia as a result of the defeat. Afghanistan’s star player Rashid Khan gave it his all on the pitch because it was a must-win game for his team in an effort to secure a victory. Before getting hurt while attempting to rescue a boundary, he had scored nine runs off eight balls and had returned figures of two for thirty one in four overs.
Dhananjaya de Silva played a pull shot on the opening ball of the last over that went past the mid-on fielder. In order to prevent the boundary, Rashid Khan, who was positioned at deep midwicket, sprinted to his left and slid on his right knee. The spin wizard harmed himself in the process. The physio examined him and lifted him off the ground.

Speaking about the game, Wanindu Hasaranga led an impressive bowling performance before Dhananjaya scored a magnificent fifty as Sri Lanka defeated Afghanistan to keep their prospects of making the semifinals alive. To limit Afghanistan to 144 for 8, mystery spinner Hasaranga (3/13) and pacer Lahiru Kumara (2/30) each took five wickets. Dhananjaya then took control of the Sri Lankan innings with a strokeful unbeaten 66 not out off 42 balls, as the reigning Asia Cup champions crossed the line with nine balls to spare.
