Gautam Gambhir Yuvraj Singh

On December 12, greetings poured in for Yuvraj Singh’s birthday from all over the nation. Gautam Gambhir’s birthday greeting, though, hasn’t been well received by fans. In a tweet, the former India opener, who made significant contributions to the 2007 T20 World Cup final and the 2011 World Cup final, referred to Yuvraj as “the best white-ball cricketer India has produced.” While this is a wonderful tribute, some fans did not share Gambhir’s viewpoint.

Yuvraj was undoubtedly one of India’s greatest match-winners of all time with around 10,000 runs in ODIs and T20Is, but it is debatable if he is the best-ever. From Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Sourav Ganguly, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, MS Dhoni to Suresh Raina, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Jasprit Bumrah, Indian cricket has produced some of the most majestic cricketers. Some of these players have racked up records that are unheard of. Although Yuvraj is undoubtedly one of India’s top players, fans weren’t too sure about ranking him above the others. Some fans also cited a previous tweet in which Gambhir had made the exact same reference to Rohit Sharma on his birthday.

I don’t know how this guy lives with so much jealousy deeply ingrained in his heart for likes of Kohli & Dhoni. Never ever seen anyone as jealous as him in my whole life.

Yuvraj won two World Cups after making his India debut at the 2000 Champions Trophy in Nairobi with a respectable knock of 84, which is still regarded as the best non-century innings on debut. Yuvraj dominated the inaugural T20 World Cup with back-to-back half-centuries against England, where he is remembered for hitting six sixes in the space of one over off Stuart Broad, and then against Australia in the quarterfinal.

From that point forward, Yuvraj’s stock rose dramatically, and for the following four years, he was at the pinnacle of his game. His stellar performance culminated with India winning the 2011 World Cup, and the former all-rounder was named Player of the Series for scoring 362 runs and taking 14 wickets during that tournament. Yuvraj made history during the tournament by becoming the first player to ever score fifty runs and secure five wickets in the same World Cup match. He also had game-changing innings with the bat against the West Indies and Australia in the quarterfinal.

Unfortunately, Yuvraj had a cancer diagnosis after the World Cup. However, like a fighter, he overcame it. In 2012, he made a comeback for India, but he simply wasn’t the same player. Yuvraj, who was battling form and fitness, was in and out of the team and missed the World Cup flight to Australia and New Zealand. Yuvraj earned his first century for India in 2017 after blasting 150 against England at the 2011 World Cup, which was his highest ODI score. Before declaring his retirement in 2019, Yuvraj played his final game for India against the West Indies a few months later.
