In the first Test of the series, Team India dominated Bangladesh, defeating the hosts in Chattogram by a score of 188 runs. In the first Test, the visitors set a challenging 513-run goal, but India decimated Bangladesh’s batting order on 324 in the second innings. Even though the home team batted through the entire fourth day, they were unable to successfully mount a comeback.
India, on the other hand, had excellent skills with both the ball and the bat. In the two innings, Cheteshwar Pujara scored 90 and 102* runs, but Shubman Gill stole the show with his first-ever Test century. Gill was given the chance to open for India in the absence of usual skipper Rohit Sharma, and he produced a magnificent 110, putting India in a commanding position.
His tonne was not in vain as India defeated England by a huge 188-run margin in the first game. Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif praised the youngster and added that if he keeps producing such innings, it would be difficult to keep Gill out of India’s playing lineup.
“It is a tough call because of the template they are following in Test cricket. They are playing with five bowlers. You could have adjusted him if you were playing four bowlers. It will be difficult to fit him in. He might have to wait if Rohit Sharma comes back. He has the form. If I were Shubman Gill at the moment, I will not think if my selection will happen or not, I have done my job. No one can stop him from becoming an all-format player,” Kaif said on Sony Sports Network.
Gill had amazing bat skills. He was dismissed for a poor total in the first innings before going on to make an outstanding hundred in the second. KL, a top-order batsman for India and temporary captain Rahul was unable to score well in either of the two innings, but Gill stepped up to the plate to seize the moment. In addition to praising the child, Kaif added:
“Shubman Gill has the technique, scores runs consistently, and has the hunger. He scored in the IPL and won Gujarat Titans the title, has scored centuries in ODI and Test cricket, so his 2022 has been fantastic. You will not be able to stop such a player for a long time, whether you have to drop KL Rahul or Shreyas Iyer for that, the place will get created. He is looking better and better whenever he is given the opportunity. The Test match is after three days, Rohit Sharma might not come as well.”
