Mumal has rarely ever stepped out of her village Kanasar. When she was told about the Indian cricket great’s tweet about her, she shyly thanked the little master. “I don’t have a ground to play on, so I play on the sands,” she told reporters. She also said that she idolizes India batter Suryakumar Yadav and tries to hit ‘long shots’ like him.
The adolescent, who is in the eighth grade, has two brothers and six sisters. She frequently assists with home duties and even leads the goats out for grazing. But she also plays barefoot cricket in her free time. Mumal plays fervently despite being without the necessary tools. Roshan Khan, a teacher at a nearby school, recognized her talent and began tutoring her.
Roshan Khan, Mumal, and a few other village females recently competed well at the Rural Olympics in Rajasthan. At the district level, their cricket team performance caught people’s attention. Mumal’s father is a meager farmer and cannot afford to support her in pursuing her cricketing goals. Satish Poonia, the state president of the BJP, sent her a cricket set after seeing her videos.
