As India finished the demolition job to finish the first Test in Nagpur in three days on Saturday, Ravichandran Ashwin guided an Australian collapse. Ashwin’s 31st five-wicket haul, five for 37, helped India win the match by innings and 132 runs. With the victory, India now leads the series 1-0 going into the second Test, which will be played in Delhi on February 17.
After the game, Ashwin suggested something to a supporter who nicknamed him “Anna Bhaiya” at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium on Twitter. “Someone at the stadium called me Anna Bhaiya today. Anna and Bhaiya are one and the same (big brother). I am extremely grateful for the love I receive but this one small correction would help,” tweeted Ashwin.

India had begun play on Day 3 with a 144-point lead over Australia. Axar Patel (84) increased the advantage to 223 despite Ravindra Jadeja being dismissed on 70 early in the morning session after adding 52 and 20 with Mohammed Shami and Mohammed Siraj, respectively. Australia’s top order, which was hoping to perform better in the second innings, broke down and had no response for India’s spin twins Ashwin and Jadeja.
Ashwin (5 wickets) and Ravindra Jadeja (2 wickets), who shared seven scalps between them, helped Australia score 91 runs in their second innings. Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, referred to Ashwin as “one of the all-time great Indian bowlers” and a “world-class bowler,” particularly at home. His team will be looking to learn from India, who won the series 2-1 in 2021 despite losing the Test after being bowled out for 36 in Adelaide.
