Just a few days remain until the IPL 2023 auction, and all 10 franchises are preparing to fill their teams with the best available players. Additionally, there are a lot of players on the list for the auction. There will be hundreds of players auctioned off, including several well-known players from India and elsewhere. Sunrisers Hyderabad, which dropped Kane Williamson from their squad, will be one team looking for a new leader.

Williamson will now be searching for a new franchise after the former IPL champions chose not to keep him. With so many alternatives emerging from the Indian team, former all-rounder Irfan Pathan suggested an Indian batter who would be the perfect Williamson replacement in SRH and could successfully captain the team during the 16th iteration of the lucrative competition. Similar to SRH, Punjab Kings also let go of their leader Mayank Agarwal, and according to Pathan, the opening batsman would make a great captain and top-order bat for SRH.

“SRH will go after Mayank Agarwal because they need a kind of aggressive opener as well. They don’t have Kane Williamson right now who led them for many years as an experienced player and who used to open the innings as well. Mayank Agarwal is the kind of guy who has led a side, who plays quite freely as well, very fearless, very selfless. They might be thinking of him going forward as a leader as well,” Pathan shared his views on the Star Sports show Game Plan.

Shikhar Dhawan, the India opener, was chosen by PBKS as their new captain after Agarwal was discharged. Agarwal will appear in the first round of the IPL 2023 auction, having previously represented clubs like the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Delhi Capitals (DC), and Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) before PBKS. On Friday, December 23, at 2:30 PM in Kochi, the event is scheduled to take place.
