The Indian cricket team’s tour of Bangladesh got off to a terrible start when they lost the opening one-day international by a razor-thin margin of one wicket. If India hadn’t missed a few late catching opportunities, the game might have easily gone in their favour. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was first dismissed by KL Rahul in the 43rd over. Washington Sundar later failed to even try to make the catch on a similar occasion, which infuriated captain Rohit Sharma.

With three quick wickets of Afif Hossain, Ebadot Hossain, and Hasan Mahmud in the 39th and 40th overs, India appeared to have a handle on the match. Mehidy Hasan and Mustafizur Rahman, however, continued to go unchallenged and forged an outstanding partnership that helped Bangladesh surpass India’s total of 186 runs.

While India had a few chances to win the match, Bangladesh did have merit for their tenacity in the fight. However, we failed in the field. KL Rahul dropped the catch initially. Then, Washington Sundar failed to make even a single attempt, making Rohit furious. Here’s the video of the whole incident:

Rohit acknowledged that the team could have played better in the final few overs and should have taken all 10 wickets during the post-game presentation ceremony. “It was a very close game. We did pretty well to come back into that position. We didn’t bat well. 184 wasn’t good enough, but we bowled pretty well and they held their nerve in the end. If you look back how we bowled right from ball one – of course, we would have loved to bowl better at the end – but we bowled pretty well for 40 overs and took wickets,” he said.
