The middle-order superstar Suryakumar Yadav has requested a break from the ongoing Bangladesh series after travelling for 75 days and competing in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, where India reached the semifinals. Yadav decided to improve his cricketing abilities despite having earned a well-earned break by making himself available for selection in Mumbai’s second Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad on December 20 in Mumbai. With no current competitive games available, the Mumbai cricketer has decided to take this action.
“Surya has informed us that he will be available for the second Ranji Trophy game. The selection committee today picked the squad for the first Ranji Trophy game (Vs Andhra) which will be led by Ajinkya Rahane,” MCA honorary secretary Ajinkya Naik said. After proving his mettle in white-ball cricket for India this year, Suryakumar Yadav is now looking to put on consistent shows in the red-ball format going forward. With that long-term goal in mind, he has chosen to take part in the current Ranji season.
Before requesting a vacation, Yadav was allegedly scheduled to be a member of the Indian Test squad for the Bangladesh series. He was a candidate to take the place of prominent all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is still healing from a knee injury he suffered during the Asia Cup. Now, the 32-year-old wants to make sure he is fully prepared to meet the challenge when he receives a call for the next Test. In February–March 2023, India will host Australia for a four-match Test series.
The Mumbai cricketer has had a successful year playing Twenty20 international matches for India. Suryakumar Yadav will end 2022 with 1164 runs, averaging 46.56 at a strike rate of 187.43 in 31 innings, in addition to two overseas centuries in this format. Notably, Suryakumar is a very accomplished first-class cricket player who has amassed 5326 runs from 77 matches at an average of 44.01 and a strike rate of 62.28, including a double century, 14 centuries, and 26 half-centuries.
