After a brief hiatus, veteran Indian batsman Virat Kohli is back in the game as India takes on Sri Lanka in a three-match One-Day International series beginning on Tuesday. In this task, Kohli will be attempting to topple a few “all-time records” held by none other than Sachin Tendulkar, his hero and the “God of Cricket.” One of the world’s most productive batsmen, Kohli, had famously scored a century in his previous appearance in the 50-over format. He intended to pick up where he left off in that game against Bangladesh.

There is no need for an introduction when it comes to Sachin Tendulkar. Tendulkar set some of the largest records during his brilliant career, which lasted for about two decades. Virat Kohli may be able to break some of them during the ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Number of home ODI centuries:

When it comes to most centuries in international cricket’s 50-over format, Sachin Tendulkar tops the list. With 19, Virat Kohli is only one tonne behind. The former India captain would surpass Tendulkar’s record if he continues to make several hundreds against Sri Lanka in the three-match series.

Most hundreds in ODIs against a single team:

In the ODI format, Kohli has already amassed a total of 8 hundreds against Sri Lanka. In comparison to the islanders, even Sachin Tendulkar has the same number of tonnes. However, Tendulkar and Kohli jointly hold the record for the most hundreds against a single opponent (9), which they each scored against Australia and the West Indies, respectively. If he adds another century, Kohli will have 9 hundreds overall and 9 versus Sri Lanka. The 33-year-old will have 10 triple-digit scores against the Lankans with two tonnes in the series, a milestone that no one else has accomplished in the game thus far.
