Wasim Jaffer, a former Indian opener, thinks Bangladesh checked all the appropriate boxes to defeat Rohit Sharma’s Team India in the thrilling bilateral series on Wednesday. The Litton Das-led Bangladesh team defeated India in the second One Day International (ODI) of the three-match series at the Shere Bangla National Stadium despite a late Rohit scare. As the hosts won the second ODI by 5 runs to grab a commanding 2-0 lead in the bilateral series, Rohit’s valiant effort was in vain.
Due to a thumb injury, Rohit, who batted at number nine for India, will miss the third and final ODI. In the second ODI, Bangladesh’s innings resulted in a thumb injury for Rohit. The third and final ODI of the current series will take place on Saturday, and KL Rahul, the vice-captain of India, will command the Virat Kohli-led team. In light of India’s performance in the second ODI, veteran Indian opener Jaffer questioned Rahul’s ability to lead in the series-clinching match in Dhaka. After skipper Rohit was taken to the hospital during the recently concluded match for scans, Rahul, the vice-captain of the Indian team, led the visitors in the second ODI.
“We had good bowlers in Mohammed Siraj and Axar Patel. Umran Malik also did well, but Bangladesh had the answers to all the questions. They batted wonderfully well and rotated the strike nicely. It’s difficult when your captain is in (not on the field) and the keeper has to lead. KL Rahul is not a very experienced captain, especially at the international level. That may have had an effect, but that can’t be an excuse. You’ve got to give credit to Bangladesh,” Jaffer said.
